GSC and Valve this is a petition requesting to remove the activation based DRM from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky. My problems began when I swapped my processor between an E8500 and Q6600 while benchmarking S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky. I got locked out due to the maximum activations reached on my key with a few hours of unlocking the game on Steam - that was day it launched. Everyone should know that any hardware changes prompt the game to re-activate and there is a limit per key for activations. Uninstalling does not revoke the key. OS changes will also trigger the need for a re-activation. So basically if you change hardware or reinstall ~5 times you will now need to get the key unlocked or a new one issued - to which GSC and Valve keep referring you to the other with neither company doing anything to resolve it. I opened a support ticket with Valve that was deleted after I was referred to GSC and told they don't offer refunds. I contacted GSC and it's been 4 days now with no answer. I paid $40 for a game I have not been able to play since the day it was unlocked on Steam. This kind of activation DRM is not helping the piracy situation in the least! In fact you are driving gamers to download this game over buying a legit copy with this type of copy protection. So how long do I have to wait now for GSC to reset my key A week, A month I reinstall my OS alot and change hardware alot, apparently GSC and Valve believe I shouldn't be able to enjoy my hobby the way I see fit. They want to restrict the amount of times we reinstall our operating system and change our hardware - we are enthusiasts you are going to need to deal with piracy in another way - this only hurts enthusiast gamers. Making the situation even worse is that there is no contact from GSC and Valve is unhelpful. And if you would like your money back Valve replies with a link to the subscriber agreement - where it says "no refunds"... strangly enough nowhere in the agreement does it state "we may screw you over with 3rd party DRM that will leave the game as nothing more than 0's and 1's on your HD and we don't care". In fact there was never anything at the time of my pre-order that told me there were limited activations!! I would have never bought it! So basically we are renting the game for 5 (or so) activations they are allowing us. If you disagree with this type of activation DRM please sign this petition so that we can urge Valve, GSC and the rest of the game developers to re-evaluate their methods for reducing piracy.
