AnonymousWe should not punish the second-career teachers. We need them to educate the children.
AnonymousPlease help the teachers and don't punish the second- career teachers.
Helen J. MartinI was not a teacher with the State of California but I retired as a professional with the California Parks and Recreation Dept. WEP affects my Social Security benefits too.

Jane B. LingerThank you for moving this legislation forward. It is grossly unfair that my teacher husband is not getting his fair share of social security that he contributed to for many years, and it is even more unfair that he will be ineligible to receive my social security if I predecease him. Please remove this injustice to our teachers and our schools.
Rodney R. LingerThank you for pressing for this legislation to remove this injustice to our teachers and our schools. Our teachers and their families deserve better treatment in their retirement years.
Claricie B. LingerThis legislation is grossly unfair to my teacher son. He is only getting a fraction of the social security benefit that he earned because he also worked for many years as a teacher and paid into a teacher's retirement. What's more, he also won't be able to get his wife's social security if she dies before he does. Please remove this injustice.

Patricia HoranI'm 62 years. I started teaching at 48 year old; what about those 32 years I was not a teacher. Am I to be deprived of the monies I put into my social security? I would hope the legislature would not only address this situation but would also rectify the problem. If not, there may be problems.. Patricia Horan

Jerry FeldmanAfter working in the private sector for over 25 years, paying into social security, I decided to get into teaching. I recently learned since I'm teaching in California I'm no longer eligible for my social security benefits. Are you kidding me? That does feels like the Government just stole my money. If there ever was an unfair law this is it.

AnonymousI am a widow and couldn't get what I should have from SS Widow's Pension because of the Windfall Act. I was a Public Employee and received a Gov. Pension.

Gabrielle LavelleI have mostly worked 2 jobs as well as working in the private sector before I worked in the education field. I also work summers somewhere, and contribute to Social Securtiy,At first I was allowed to elect to contribute to Social Security instead of PERS then STRS, but now have no choice. I have contributed much more to Social Security than the other 2 systems and am afraid to retire. I already have a hard time supporting my family. Please pass this law to make it fair for all of us hard working, dedicated professionals. Thanks.

Beverly K. BrockingtonI have worked and paid into the Social Security system since I was a teenager. I certainly want to be able to collect the benefits that I have laid away for future use.

Diane McClainPlease pass HR 82 and S206. I feel so cheated by my country to be a victim of this unfair situation. For all those years in New York, I paid into Social Security only now to be denied what's just plain fair. If when I move to California and done nothing, I would have collected all that I had paid into , but because I became a teacher, I am denied what I had paid into SS. When I tell people about this, they don't believe me....How can a federal program be denied by a state?
Linda AnthonyI am a 37 year veteran teacher who worked all through high school, all through college and many summers throughout my career. I have many more than 40 quarters for Social Security and I feel I deserve the retirement income. Thank you!

Rebecca SchenoneI worked in the pharmaceuticals and computer technology industries before staying home to raise my husband's and my children. I was an active public school volunteer and my experience showed my how important public education is and how enjoyable teaching can be. That's why I became a secondary school Biology teacher, a specialty educators assured me was badly needed. I am not paid any where near the amount I should be paid if hours spent grading work, planning lessons, labs, setting up labs, taking down labs and voluntary workshops were taken into account. This is the first time since 1990 that I am working at employment that will generate social security benefits, for when I am too old to teach. The retirement benefits teachers collect reflect the comparatively low salaries in the education field. If you are barely making enough to live on as a teacher, you are not going to be able to put aside money for investments or programs that will allow you to retire. Also, the reason I can afford to teach is because my husband earns more salary and benefits in private industry. If this legislation does not pass, I would have to consider alternative employment in private industry in order to generate enough retirement income.
Michele MarquetteI have worked since 16 and contributed to SS. I became a teacher at 37 (and was highly awarded over the years). I am apalled that because I elected to teach and to work toward improving the future of all, that I will lose a good portion of SS when I retire. Why are we (teachers, law enforcement, firemen) being punished because we chose to help? How can we justify allowing some of the most heroic and dedicated people of our great nation, suffer poverty during their last years?

Anthony MankiniIsn't it enough that my first pension is compramised by my membership in Social Security; but now you want to "offset" my future retirement benefits yet again! Please stop. Please consider the impact this will have on my ability to afford long term care for my wife and I as senior citizens and the impact this "offset" will have on our quality of life.
John RossmannOn an annualized basis, the repeal of WEP and GPO would add only 1-1/2% to the Social Security benefit outlay, which is a microscopic amount of the federal budget.
Robin VelteI earned my social security benefit and have a mere $1,000 a month teacher's pension. It's essential to my survival to not have my social security benefit reduced. Thank you!
jeanne McCarthyI am a second career special education teacher in Burlingame, CA. Unless the law is changed, I will be subject to the windfall penalties currently imposed on teachers. I believe this is unfair and should be corrected by my legislators in Congress. Please pass the bill that would eliminate this unfair tax.
Sally Anh GilliamI am a Texas teacher who is extremely adversely effected by both the :Windfall" and the "Offset".
Michelle RileyWe need teachers and this is how we reward them? Please correct this injustice.
Bronwyn O'MalleyI'm a second career teacher and am dismayed at the duplicity of this! I had no idea!
