| 6401 | Stanley E. Baker | Lets be fair. If you pay, then you deserve fair play.
Expect our representatives across the states to take this chance to get it right. Voters, please take note in January 2008 of those who vote otherwise. |

Frank Arzola | I am now on my third and last career, teaching. At 51, with only 13 years in the profession I plan to work until I am at least 62 which will give me a total of 24 years and a pension of roughly 59% of my last years salary which is not enough living in California. I believe it is a question of fairness however, why should I not recieve Social Security after I have contributed to it for nearly 20 years previously? By collecting Social Security, I will be in a much better position to enjoy a more financially secure retirement.
Renee Lancon | It is vital that these be rescinded in the name of fairness!!!
Gabriel bernal | Please fix this law and make it fair for those that paid in to the system.
Anne Daniells | I switched to teaching after 20+ years in corporate life. I now cannot teach and still protect my own children should my husband die as I would receive only 10% of survivor benefits. How stupid is that? I'm willing to teach for MUCH less than I made in public sector, and am experienced, but California loses out because I've had previous employment!

Paula Ginsburg |
Richard T.Bellesheim | Worked part time and full time out of education for the last 51 years paying into social security. Also, served in USMC 3 years in combat (Vietnam)paying into social security. Now being penalized for retiring in CT with a teachers' pension.
Brent Smiley | I worked long and hard in the private sector before I decided that my real contribution to our nation lay in the classroom. For sacrificing a lot of pay and benefits, how does my government reward me? They slash my Social Security. Unless this changes, I may well be forced back into the private sector.
Barry A. Cox | This is a critical voting issue for me and it should be for you also. I've paid into Social Security for more than 70 quarters. I served in the U.S AiR Force and Department of Defense Dependent Schools. Now I'm being penalized for recieving a small Federal teaching pension. I'm 63 years old and I am still teaching and paying into Social Security. I will not be able to retire without Social Security! I am a registered voter in Washington State, but it effects me as well.

roy a peterson | repeal gpo/wep NOW before I"m dead......
Paul Ngwoke | I urge Congress to pass HR 82 by Congressmen Berman and McKeon and S 206 by Senators Feinstein and Collins.
Ruth Berry | I actually was considering doing some semi-retirement work in states that are affected by GPO/WEP. Then I realized my Social Security benefits would be as severely penalized as my husband's were when he worked as a public servant after also working several years in the private sector. GPO/WEP was a discriminating act. If it was such a good thing, why did Congress choose to go to a program that would exclude them from this act? That $600 a month could sure help out with some household bills.
Melvin Berry | GPO/WEP went into effect the year I retired from public service. I had worked for several years in the private sector as well as my 29.5 years of public service. With my work, I paid into social security for all the necessary points to draw. But thanks to GPO/WEP there is a small portion of my benefit remaining after I pay my medicare. Did our public servants in Congress include their pensions in this? Where is the justice?
JoAnn M. Hafenbreidel | I currently draw $8.00 per month even though I have 40+ quarters of credited Social Security from first career. I taught for 25 years in my second career.Thank you for your efforts in this matter.
John Leonard |
| 6420 | Maureen Hakala | I support the Social Security Fairness Act! I worked in the private sector for 22 years before becoming a teacher. My social security contributions should NOT be taken away from me! I EARNED EVERY CENT I CONTRIBUTED AND SHOULD RECEIVE MY SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS! They are MY DOLLARS!!
Thanks,
Maureen Hakala |
Greg Renne |
Melissa Flores | I am a teacher who worked from age 16 to 28 in the private sector and paid into Social Security. If I cannot collect that money when I retire, that is unfair. Our state will not be able to recruit people into teaching if this continues. Please get this bill passed.
Marlene Silverberg |
Allison Goodwin |
Anonymous | we don't make enough. please don't reduce or take away our social security.
john lodato | We need fairness for those who have considerably vested in social security and in later years worked in a state pension plan provision.

| 6430 | Anonymous | I am a retired Federal Worker under the CSRS system; however, the CSRS doesn't pay enough for me to live in retirement.
I was originally hired under the CSRS system and told that as a career federal worker that I would get less salary than private industry but that at 55 I could retire and work under Social Security for 10 years and get two retirement checks to help offset the reduced pay during my working career. That changed 15 years into my federal career and no salary adjustments occurred to make up for the loss. An immigrant who works 10 years gets retirement benefits that I am prohibited from getting although I was receiving a less than private industry salary during 36 years of federal employment. I am currently working as a State of TN employee, fully paying FICA deductions but prohibited from getting benefits others will receive for the same length of work.
This is not fair. |
Barbara Ferreira | I am a past PTA President, BSA Committee Member among many other community volunteer positions. I have Sub taught for the last 10 years in CA in order to provide income to my family and care for my own children. It is unfair that I lose my SS benefits I and my husband have contributed and be penalized for working within a system that is clearly flawed. Please support HR 82 and S206.
David Thorn | I have paid into Social Security for many years, and now I work in the UC and community college systems. I want to be able to receive my rightful benefits when I retire, and not be cheated based on obsolete laws which do not take my situation into account. Please repeal these draconian provisions.
Michaelyn Alson | Not only are both of the above unfair to an already underpaid, important segment of our population, but rediculous in light of the fact that it doesn't apply to other populations. Further, public employees should earn SS credits even though they earn a pension just as other employees of corporations with pensions do.
Charles Alson, OD | Not only are both of the above unfair to an already underpaid, important segment of our population, but rediculous in light of the fact that it doesn't apply to other populations. Further, public employees should earn SS credits even though they earn a pension just as other employees of corporations with pensions do.
Dr. William Campbell | Not only are both of the above unfair to an already underpaid, important segment of our population, but rediculous in light of the fact that it doesn't apply to other populations. Further, public employees should earn SS credits even though they earn a pension just as other employees of corporations with pensions do.
Mark Alson, MD | Not only are both of the above unfair to an already underpaid, important segment of our population, but rediculous in light of the fact that it doesn't apply to other populations. Further, public employees should earn SS credits even though they earn a pension just as other employees of corporations with pensions do.
Erik Alson, PE | Not only are both of the above unfair to an already underpaid, important segment of our population, but rediculous in light of the fact that it doesn't apply to other populations. | 6440 | Robert Mash | I am also affected by this unfair law. Please allow my name to appear on your prttition. Thank You.
Anonymous | I have worked very hard over the years. I believe I am entitled to Social Security benefits.

Anonymous | Please repeal these unfair and hurtful acts.
Robin Hill | I should be rewarded for entering teaching not penalized.
Doug Spillers | Correct the Fairness Act. Give teachers the SS they earned prior or during teaching.
Elizabeth Slosarski |
Kenneth L. Franchi II | Make this happen! Becoming a teacher should not be a punishment to those individuals choosing teaching as a second career!!!
Martha Cheng | We should not punish the second-career teachers. We need them to educate the children.
