SRAE students benefit from dedicated and talented teachers and aides! But, parents are needed to come together for the benefit of smaller class sizes for our children and our teachers. Please consider signing the petition below. ALSO, PLEASE ATTEND THE MARCH 31ST SRASD BOARD MEETING, 7:30 P.M. AT THE SR MIDDLE SCHOOL LIBRARY, WHERE THIS PETITION WILL BE PRESENTED AND THE COLLECTIVE VOICE OF CONCERNED PARENTS WILL BE HEARD. In particular, the SRAE Kindergarten, 4th and 5th grade classes have on average 26-27 students! While our children have had the benefit of a teacher and an aide in Kindergarten, we are especially concerned about next year\'s 1st and 5th grade classroom sizes and high student-teacher ratio. Since parents began this effort, we have heard from SR\'s other elementary school parents with similar concerns. We invite Har-Mer and Moraine parents to sign the petition noting your school and share your comments as well. The Pennsylvania Department of Education recommends a 1:17 elementary teacher-student ratio as the most beneficial with a maximum of 1:22 elementary teacher-student ratio for successful learning. At the last board meeting, SRASD administrators presented projected classroom sizes for 2008-09. Of concern to parents: Har-Mer\'s 1st grade with 26 students in one classroom, 2nd with 27 students and 3rd with 28 students. At Moraine, the average 4th grade class size is projected to be 27.67. And, at SRAE, the 1st grade average size class is projected to be 26 and the 5th grade projected average class size is 26.33. District Kindergarten enrollment is still taking place. A few parents have shared this concern with the SRASD Board Members and we have been encouraged to present a collective parent voice to help shape the planning process. Timing is important now as administrators and school board members are planning now for the 2008-09 school year. We would like to ask the board to consider alternatives to smaller class size learning opportunities. If you are concerned about large classroom sizes and how learning is impacted by high student-teacher ratios AND If you would like the district to take a closer look at current class sizes and explore all alternatives to learning in smaller class sizes Please include your name below. It would be helpful if you did not sign anonymously for the school board to see legitimate parent concern on this petition. ONCE YOU SIGN THE PETITION,iPETITIONS WILL ASK FOR A VOLUNTARY DONATION. A DONATION IS NOT REQUIRED TO SIGN THE SRAE PETITION. We will not contact you unless you request it. If you would like more information or would like to become more involved, please contact the parent petition sponsors.
