On 17th June 2011, I contacted our local Community Parks officer to voice my concerns over the safety of children leaving Sprotbrough New Lane Park. As you will know, the Park has recently been refurbished, attracting more children, especially over the summer months. The New Lane entrance/exit is not visible from the road and on two occasions whilst driving up New Lane, a child ran straight out of the park into the road in front of my car. There is no pavement and no sign warning them of the road ahead. I requested a simple sign or some sort of gate so that children would be forced to slow down when exiting the park. After numerous e-mails backwards and forwards, still no action has been taken. The Highways department do not see it as a priority. I really hope they sort something out before a child is run over and injured or worse. I would really appreciate the support of the residents of Sprotbrough. Thank you.
