This petition seeks to convince Sprint-Nextel to enable smartphone users to travel overseas with their 4G LTE smartphones, which Sprint aggresively markets to its customers. For years, Sprint customers have had to endure lacking the selection of Sprint's main competitors AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and T-Mobile, in addition to poor service signal (which recently, to Sprint's credit, has improved somewhat). We know that at the very least, roaming internationally should be possible on 4G LTE phones, as Verizon Wireless will soon be implementing the option via an OTA update for several of their LTE phones, including the Samsung Galaxy S3 (which Sprint also offers). LTE is a GSM-based technology. For the kind of money Sprint customers pay to a company which dropped the ball on 4G "Wi-Max," Android, and the iPhone, we should be able to travel with our phones we paid our hard-earned money for. It makes sense for Sprint, which could collect on roaming charges if a customer chooses to roam, and it makes sense for the consumer who wants to travel with the phone for which he/she paid a lot of money.

Furthermore, there is no good reason one cannot remove the SIM card on his phone, as fellow CDMA carriers Verizon and US Celluar allow. It would allow for easier activation of phones, and allow customers to use pre-paid SIM cards when overseas, where roaming rates can run in excess of 2 dollar per minute.
