Call for Pieter de Villiers to resign

As supporters of rugby, and South African rugby, we state the following regarding Pieter de Villiers, coach of the Springbok rugby team: 1. De Villiers was not originally appointed on merit, but on political grounds. 2. De Villiers, by way of his comments to the press and in public, is not only an embarrassment to South African rugby, but to South Africa as a whole. 3. De Villiers has on several occasions made racist comments, without being held accountable. 4. De Villiers, through his personal conduct, is damaging relationships with other rugby unions across the world. 5. The Springbok rugby team, despite being world champions, continue to under-perform and exhibit ill discipline on the field. 6. Despite claims by De Villiers that he stands by his players, he refuses steadfastly to cite opposing players for blatant foul play. We strongly believe that he does not have the ability nor the personality to hold the highest position in the South African rugby team. ***We also strongly affirm that this is not a racial issue, but a capability issue. Those who believe that being from a certain race disqualifies a person from criticism, and wish to call those who criticize racist are the real racists. We stand unconditionally for a non-racist society where people are not judged by the color of their skin, but by their ability to perform the duties of their appointment.*** Given the above, we, the undersigned, hereby call on Pieter de Villiers to immediately resign from his position as head coach of the South African rugby team. Failing that, we call on the South African Rugby Union to relieve him from his duties with immediate effect, for the good of South African rugby.
