Name: Austin Kendrick on Jul 24, 2007Comments: If it's not enough to have the mollycoddling Nanny State telling us what we can and can't do, we seem to have here a group of individuals who are lucky enough to be able to afford to move to one of Birmingham's most vibrant and certainly oldest area, and then have the audacity to complain that the surrounding area is not to their taste. YOU LIVE IN A CITY CENTRE, DID YOU NOT THINK THERE MAY BE A BIT OF NOISE WHEN YOU SIGNED ON THE DOTTED LINE TO LIVE THERE!!!!! I am completely for the continued functioning of the Spotted Dog, and would suggest that those residents that are not happy about the fact that a pub has been there for years before they moved in, should begin house hunting somewhere that is not in this country's greatest city centre.Flag

Name: Denis Daly on Jul 24, 2007Comments: The Spotted Dog is a long established focal point for both the local area and Birmingham-Irish communities. It was established long before the Abacus Apartments, and is the type of venue that one would expect to find when moving into such an area - in fact, it is possibly one of the attractions of the area for potenytial residents. To let it die would be a disgrace.Flag

Name: Tricia Mahoney on Jul 24, 2007Comments: I've been a wild rover for many a year and spent lots of money on Spotted Dog beer And now I'm returning and think what a bore that music music will not be in the Dog anymore. Well it's no nay never, DON'T KEEP IT DOWN! No nay never no more. Go back to your apartment , close the windows and door! I went into an apartment, wouldn't want to frequent. And I asked the resident just what he meant He said he wants silence, I answered him nay, sure when you're pushing up daisies you can have it all day. And it's no, nay, never. DON'T KEEP IT DOWN! No, nay, never no more. There'll be music and parties in the Dog for ever more! I took him over the road to the Dog for the night. And his eyes and his ears opened wide with delight. He said you have music and craic of the best, sure the noise abatement order was only in jest! and it's no, nay, never. DON'T KEEP IT DOWN! No, nay, never no more. There'll be music and parties in the Dog for ever more! Now he's a regular, cofessed what he's done. And everyone's pardoned the Abacus son. And now he's forgiven, his welcome is sure. There's music and parties in the Dog once more! and it's....... you know what I meanFlag

Name: Rob Middleton on Jul 24, 2007Comments: Surley people living near to a pub should expect some noise every now and again, if you like your peace and quiet dont move in near to a pub, simple really. The way i see it is the spotted dog was there before the apartments, end of story. Keep digbeth moving forward, not taking steps backwards, its a unique kind of place where you need to go hunting for the best spots, plus it offers some of the best places for live music in birmingham.Flag

Name: Saoirse Lawlor Kennedy on Jul 24, 2007Comments: I work in The Spotted Dog and for years there have been so many good events in the garden, which many different people have come to and enjoyed. It just won't be the same place without us being able to have music in the garden. If these few people, who should have researched the area further, are able to shut us down, The Custard Factory, Air, The Rainbow and all the other music venues could get shut down too. Then what would Digbeth have left to offer The vibrancy of Digbeth is what brought the vast majority of residents there. We can't let these places get closed down.Flag

Name: Stuart Brindley on Jul 24, 2007Comments: I am not an Abacus resident but would imagine that this is a classic case of the council listening to and taking sides with the minority. This also happened with the Fiddle & Bone and that geezer who played Sax on New St. The Spotted Dog was there and providing entertainment long before these whinging residents decided to move in. No-one asked them to move in, maybe they should go and live in the country and give someone who wantsto live in a vibrant city centre area a chance to enjoy themselves. Good Luck Spotted Dog!Flag

Name: James Kennedy on Jul 24, 2007Comments: Without wishing to sound rude, for a long time marvellous venues like the Spotted Dog, the Fiddle and Bone, the Gallows, Edwards No 8, The Old Railway, the Epic Skate Park and countless others have fallen victim to the axe of the apartment resident petition. How does one expect the culture of this city to prosper when it's most exciting and vibrant venues are asphixiated by this minority These people knew of these venues upon moving in, in some cases they have enjoyed the hospitality of such venues before deciding that enough is enough, and beause they have the power, they have ultimately got their own way. As a performer who performs regularly in the Digbeth area, and who has enjoyed the beauty and tradition of it's surrounding like so many other residents alike, I feel I can speak for many when I say it would be a real shame to let this venue, like so many others fall victim to the curse of real estate. THIS MUST NOT HAPPEN AND IT SHOULD NEVER AGAIN. Keep music live!Flag

Name: Dave Bruce Johnson on Jul 24, 2007Comments: I have been a regular player of traditional music ( last Tuesdays monthly) at the Spotted Dog for over 20 years. I find this complaint just typical of the threat to live music in Birmingham. In this instance The Spotted Dog represents an active centre for many facets of community activities and should be fully supported . In particular John and Anne are at the centre of the Irish quarter renaissance in Digbeth, which I thought had the full support from Birmingham City Council. The tenants of Abacus should have moved in with the knowledge that the city centre has these social /cultural activities after all I thought that was the attraction of moving into the area to be close to it. I cannot see what the problem is if the noise is kept within reasonable times. Please do not let a few complaints spoil the pleasure and pulse of the vibrant community found at The Spotted Dog as what sadly happened with the Fiddle and Bone a few years ago.Flag
