Adam CrossleyAs a resident of Abacus I moved here to enjoy the vibrancy of Digbeth. Let the entertainment in the garden continue as it always has!
Tony KennedyAs the Birmingham City Councillor representing the area who founded the 'Digbeth Irish Quarter' in 1993 and raised the petition for the re-establsihment of the St Patrick's Parade initiated by discussions held at the 'Spotted Dog', I confirm and reinforce the original objective of regeneration of the area building -on the unique character of the area which the pub exemplifies. Modern ,cosmopolitan cities of Europe respect and build on the traditions of their vibrant neighbourhoods, Birmingham must face-up the law, and secure maximum flexibilty to preserve and expand the core characteristics of 'Digbeth'. We have a unique opportunity and challenge: celebrate the character of the area and support this through planning challenges, or capitulate to bureaucratic planning dogma. There is a simple message for prospective residents: If you don't like Digbeth, don't move here!

Linda TurveyI would like to register my support for the Spotted Dog which is a well run establishment and its garden is a main feature of the pub. Many Charity events have been held at the venue and the garden is often used for this. I am astounded at the position of the new apartments as they are so close to the road and hence the pub is only a short distnce from them. As the pub is an established part of the area I cannot understand how residents can be surprised at a certain amount of noise generated from it. The landlord runs the establishment very responsibly hence my support that he should be able to continue to do so.
Yvonne McGowanDon't allow the Spotted Dog to be the next Fiddle & Bone.

Clive Phillips JonesIt would be a very great shame if The Spotted Dog, a very popular venue, is stopped from providing a very valuable service to the local community. it is obviously a great source of local entertainment and provides much needed employment for the area. Surely the new residents were fully aware of the Spotted Dog and the functions it provides and taken this into account before they decided to move in.
Jeff HallThis pub and it's entertainment have been in existance for many years prior to these apartments being built. Why would anybody in their right mind buy an apartment next door to a pub that has live music and expect peace and quiet!
Ann Marie RochfordGolden rule when purchasing property, get you know your area before signing on the dotted line! Digbeth has also been known for live music and the craic, instead of complaining why not join in! Will the new residents also blame The Spotted Dog for the amount of smoke now in the atmosphere due to the smoking ban!

Aswalia Lawlor KennedyI am a member of staff at The Spotted Dog and am very worried about the recent abatement order against us. As many of the Abacus residents know, the pub is a great venue for all sorts of events. It's a shame a few don't agree. I too don't understand why these people would buy a flat in the building without investigating the area first, after all it is potentially the biggest investment they will ever make.
Adam McSweeneythe spotted dog as been a well know pub in our familes huge circle of friends related to the pub as a suberb place to meet and enjoy them selves. This pub can not be taken away from the thousands of people who use it and love it meerly becuase of a new resident on the block.
john twortwhy live in digbeth, if you don't want a lively night life?!
Alan BlissWould it make sense to move to the country and complain about greenery ? Then why move to Digbeth and complain about a long established, well run pub doing exactly what it should; entertaining the locals and those who appreciate a 'real' pub.
Vic LoveridgeI am an Abacus resident and moved to Digbeth because I have always enjoyed what it has to offer i.e. great pubs and live music. I was appalled when I heard that the Spotted Dog had received an abatement order. For years the pub has been able to hold events in its garden that could be enjoyed by all of Birmingham's communities. Now the Spotted Dog and other pubs and venues in the area could be destroyed. I for one do not want to end up living in a soul less, sterile area full flats, cafes and bars run by chains. Don't allow a tiny minority to rip the heart out of Digbeth.
Fiona KerleyThis is a total travestity! This pub has not only been an integral part of a vibrant entertainment community, it has also served as a major core to the Irish Community in Birmingham. It has served as Wedding, Birthday & numerous celebrations added to the fact it has employed many staff as a secondary income to supplement their primary income. I am unfamiliar with Abacus residents and understand your plight but the Spotted Dog has been a part of the neighbourhood and is also a part of Digbeth history. I have lived next to a pub and it was my choice. I researched the neighbourhood well beforehand and had ample double glazing. How could I possibly complain when the pub was there before I moved to the area. If it was the other way round then I feel I would have a grievance but to move to the area in question knowing there was a pub with a garden area is unfortunate and feel your plight is somewhat unjustified. Please reconsider your complaint so that the spotted dog can continue to offer the fantastic service it has provided for 22 years!!!!! Fiona Kerley
Brendan HostyI have been visiting this establishment for a number of years and love the music and entertainment it offers, both for young and old so i would be mortified to have no music,i.e like a football match with no crowd,no atmosphere.
Denis ConroyThe Spotted Dog has for many years been a focal point for the coming together of many traditions, all of which have been celebrated with the respect they deserve. This pub has functioned as is long before the Abacus development was even dreamed up, so anyone wanting to live there should have been aware of its existence and "NOISE"!! before buying. To those residents who prompted this order, I say, "get a life"
Sarah BannerAs a close friend of a Digbeth resident I believe that areas like Digbeth should be preserved and enhanced and not be allowed to become another Brindley Place/Broad Street. The Spotted Dog is a well established pub offering it's services to the local community. New residents were aware of the pub prior to moving in and should welcome it's facilities at the heart of Digbeth life.
Hugh McGowanIf I did not like the sound of heavy traffic I would not go to live beside a main road. I would not move in and then expect the road to be closed. Why move to a property opposite a pub then to complain about it.? The Spotted Dog is the finest community pubs I know. The owners, staff and customers are all genuine people who have over the years raised many thousands of pounds for assorted charities. It is not just that such draconian consequences could happen as a result of uncalibrated and uncoroborated information.

Nigel GoodwinFor the best pint in Brum - long live the Spotted Dog.
ScottusIt's in a prime development spot, as was Edwards No 8. Lets just hope the Spotted Dog doesn't mysteriously burn down.
Neil SmithThe Spotted Dog (and other local pubs) are crucial to Digbeths vibrant music scene. Many people moving into the Digbeth area are doing so because of such establishments and new developments and the councils planning department need to be sensitive to this.
paul o'neillKeep long lasting traditions alive. I was recently there and enjoyed a wonderful evening outside.

James HavardA great pub made even better by the use of the outdoor area! To stop the use of it would be outrageous because of a few individuals who have forgotten what it is to have fun. The pub was there before the flats and will be there after they are long gone so lets all just get along.

Camille NewtonWhy move next to such a lively place, and then complain - people should have known it was there before they moved in! It is really important that this area is allowed to keep its unique heritage and not turned into another carbon copy of so many other other city areas, full of chain pubs and identikit bars. There is enough of this already. The area needs to be developed sensitively and keep its character.

Harpinder SinghFact: Digbeth has always been known to be a vibrant place to both live and visit . I question why anybody would move to Digbeth if theyre against the whole ethos, it is truely a unique place to live or visit. Digbeth embraces culture and diversity . Long live the Spotted Dog.

Rich BatsfordThe Spotted Dog is a national treasure and the garden is a vital part of it. Its one of the reasons that this city is worth living in, save it now! Rich Xx
oliver stauntonLet us never see the Dog or digbeth go down like the fiddle and bone did in the Brindley - those complaining had a choice where they moved to, Digbeth isn't the suburbs, they should let time pass and get used to the area before whinging. Good luck John
Maria Cunningham
kirsty MasonPlease keep the spotted dog alive!!!
Tom GallagherI Have spent many happy times in the Spotted Dog over many years and never witnessed complaints of any nature before. Any reasonable person would accept there may come noise from a pub - check it out first, "LET THE BUYER BEWARE" - or had the complainants an eyesight problem along with a lack of sense.

mr cj reynoldsi've been to many events at this pub over the years and fully support john in this, an unreasonable few who expect an area to change to suit them and should not be pandered to.
Ian WoodBefore you buy a house / apartment you should always do a "reccy" beforehand to see exactly what you're investing in. If you don't want to be flooded, you don't buy a house near a notorious river. If you don't want aeroplanes roaring overhead you shouldn't move near to an airport. And if you don't want to be living next to a lively city centre public house with a great entertainment schedule, don't move in opposite to it!! If you like peace and quiet in abundance, move to Herefordshire or Shropshire! Good luck John in your quest to overturn this Notice.
AnonymousBe a very sad loss to lose this wonderful pub. Why are people buying homes so close to a pub if they can't deal with the noise - MOVE OUT!
Sophie McLean
Becca KirkpatrickThis venue was here long before Abacus Apartments, and I hope will remain long after! It's an essential part of the thriving Digbeth scene. Developers see strong local culture as a barrier to their ideas of 'progress' - throwing up block after block of identikit yuppie flatblocks. Don't be silenced!
