Everyone who has a child that attends Medfield Heights Elementary knows when there is any kind of event involving the cafeteria it is usually a debacle. Given the limited space, parents are corralled in, fighting over seats and standing off to the sides because there is extremely limited visibility. This past holiday pageant on December 20th, 2013 was the worst example of this. The crowd was completely out of control. There were fights breaking out, parents holding up giant iPads and phones obstructing everyone’s view, people crowed all towards the back blocking exits. One person there with a young child told me she was worried that she would be trampled if something bad happened. Granted, the parents definitely need to behave more responsibly BUT it is completely irresponsible for a school to put the parents that do want to sit nicely and watch their children in this dangerous situation.

School events should be broken up into 2 groups Pre K - 1st and 2nd– 5th one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

This would help make school programs a better experience because…

Less parents per show creates move available “good” seats

Will curb noise/talking

Give teachers and staff better crowd control due to less people

Now I know what the staff is probably thinking when they read this “If parents and guests would just actappropriatelythese problems would not occur” and I would tend to agree with you in a perfect world but that justisn'tthe case. Bottom line the school is too small and there are too many people. We need to be proactive and think of solutions now before someone gets hurt.
