Comments: There's probably a better way to say it... like referring to religion being the source of much hostility and therefore should have no consideration in governance of a peaceful people....or perhaps something to the effect of leaving the imaginary out of social decision-making. But, I got ya' and agree with the gist

Comments: how does the phrase "under God" tell you who to believe in how does it "insist" to tell you anything the supreme court has ruled that nobody can be forced to say the pledge... how does it put any "responsibility", as you claim, on you you sound ashamed of your heritage...which is sad...considering that thousands of your countrymen died to protect.

Comments: Religion isn't something that is true or not true. Religion is a belief some people have that differs in different parts of the world and cultures and I don't believe in any kind of organized religion but forcing someone on a certain religion is a crime to this nation.

Comments: This is the land of the free and I think for freedom of religion to work, all religions as well as none need to be represented. What about older religions of paganism, druidism, polythiesm, etc. To say that the founding fathers were Christians is a copout. The founding fathers were also slaveholders, should we go back to having slaves too

Comments: I read what this person said about people forcing God of him. I dont know what people have done to force God on him, but their intentions are good because in the end it is simply his eternal soul they are thinking about. He will remember that for eternity. My point however is, I am not trying to force God on anyone but I dont want anyone trying to force me not to speak about God if I want to. I will not and can not force God on anyone, but I will pray when I want where I want. I'm probably not going to ask you to join me, but if out at a resturant and I want to give thanks, dont send a waiter over and say your offended because I bowed my head. I'm offended you did not.

Comments: 100% Agree. Christian church is continously trying to limit our basic freedoms - such as freedom of faith, the freedom to believe or not in a god, the freedom to abide or not by the morals of a church, that do not coincide often with what most people consider moral or acceptable.

Comments: Where did "In God We Trust" originate Many mistakenly believe that it has been the national motto since revolutionary days; but the phraseology is strictly religious in origin. On July 11, 1955, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed Public Law 140 making it mandatory that all coinage and paper currency display the motto "In God We Trust." The following year, Public Law 851 was enacted and signed, which officially replaced the national motto "E Pluribus Unum" with "In God We Trust". All of this occurred at the height of cold war tension, when political divisions between the Soviet and western block was simplistically portrayed as a confrontation between Judeo-Christian civilization and the "godless" menace of communism. Indeed, the new national motto was only part of a broader effort to effectively religionize civic ritual and symbols. On June 14, 1954, Congress unanimously ordered the inclusion of the words "Under God" into the nation's Pledge of Allegiance. By this time, other laws mandating public religiosity had also been enacted, including a statute for all federal justices and judges to swear an oath concluding with "So help me God."
