To our Morris Plains Borough Council Members We, the undersigned, residents of Glenbrook Road and surrounding streets, are in agreement that at least two speed tables are necessary on Glenbrook Road, east, from Stiles Avenue to Speedwell Avenue. The safety and welfare of our school children are our highest priority. On at least two occasions since Jan. 1, 2013, residents, school buses, and police vehicles have been observed traveling at excessive speed rates east on Glenbrook Rd. The two occasions I, Windella McCloughy, 44 Glenbrook, have observed: On Jan. 7, 2013, a Jordan Handicapped school bus, with handicapped children on board at 3 pm, traveleling west at 40 mph. The other observance, by myself was on March 6, 2013. I was behind this bus, in my car. A police vehicle, with no sirens or lights flashing, traveling east on Glenbrook at 3:15 pm -(by my estimate and also by another resident at my front window at the same time) - in excess of 50 mph. For the last four years, since my three grandchildren lived at my residence for the previous three years, I have personally observed commuters at 6:30 to 9:30 am, traveling east to Speedwell Ave., above 25 mph. They brake for a blacktop rectangle in front of 40 Glenbrook, thinking it was a speed table, then continue on. It seems that these commuters care more for their vehicles than for the safety of children walking to a bus stop or to school. I, Windella McCloughy, have no objection to a speed table being placed in front of my driveway at 44 Glenbrook. In my opinion, another one needs to be place farther up towards Speedwell as well. Respectfully submitted, Morris Plains residents.
