In order to preserve the quality of education for both students with and without disabilities, it is the belief of _____________________ (insert organization name) that any future legislation or statewide policy which promotes “school choice” should include the ideas and concerns expressed in the following resolution passed by our organization on _________________ (insert date): • We support quality educational choices for all students with disabilities that preserve parent and student rights and adequately guarantee academic support for children. • We support equitable education solutions that allow students, including those with the most significant disabilities, to have access to quality education and do not support initiatives which exclude certain groups, either deliberately or by virtue of design. • We support the wise use of public dollars which do not put certain groups of students at risk to benefit others. • We support the wise use of public dollars which require evidence-based practices and programs that are proven to support children with disabilities and guarantee qualified staff to implement programming. • We support educational investments which are accountable and transparent in reporting results of student performance. • We support the responsible use of tax dollars in limiting vouchers to families whose income would otherwise make private school prohibitive. • We support a separate appropriation for any voucher proposal to ensure that vouchers do not threaten the economic viability of small or struggling Wisconsin public school districts. • Finally, our organization also firmly supports the requirement that any proposed school choice legislation aimed at students with disabilities must require extensive stakeholder through a public hearing.
