On November 20th during the Council meeting Mayor Cory Booker cast a vote for the vacant council seat (that occurred as a result of Donald M. Payne, Jr. being elected to congress) Mayor Cory Booker is only permitted to participate in casting a vote on a decision if and when there is a tie or a lack of quorum. There was no tie and they were in quorum.

Council Member Ramos clearly violated Robert’s Rules of Order, which are the parliamentary procedures that govern the conduct of Council meetings. The other three Council Members (Amador, Gonzalez, and Quintana) knew Council Member Ramos’ actions were out of order, because its about more than the motion he made, its also about his failure to follow procedures for adding an item to the agenda, and for his failure to recognize Council Member Baraka, who clearly spoke up before he attempted to get Gonzalez to cast a vote.

By signing this petition you will let Mayor Cory Booker and Council Members Amador, Gonzalez, Quintana, and Ramos know that what they did was wrong and that we as registered voters of the City of Newark demand to hold a SPECIAL ELECTION.

By having a SPECIAL ELECTION this puts the decision in the hands of the constituents to decide on who should occupy the vacant seat for Council Person at Large.

This total and utter disregard for democratic principles is a disenfranchisement of the citizens of Newark, NJ.
