Property taxes affect EVERYONE! The recent 2008 assessments were done at the PEAK of the realty market in Ontario- January 2008. Since then, EVERYTHING in the markets have gone down. Why should we pay tax on an incorrect assessed value Prices will go up- rents will go up- EVERYTHING will get more expensive just when families are finding it harder to make ends meet. Can you depend on your municipalities to take these inflated MPAC values into account when setting their 'mill rates' You don't need to- PETITION THE LEVEL OF GOVERNMENT WHO CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. To The Legislative Assembly of Ontario: WHEREAS 2009 is a reassessment year in the Province of Ontario; and WHEREAS the assessments will be phased in over a four year period from 2009 to 2012; AND WHEREAS the assessed values for current value assessment collected as f January 1, 2008 were obtained during years of high real estate activity in the Province of Ontario; AND WHEREAS the downturn in the current global economic climate has greatly affected the real estat market, and subsequently, the assessed values in the Province of Ontario; WE the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as follows:- That the Minister of Finance for the Province of Ontario roll back the assessed values to the base year of January 1, 2005.
