Do you think its ok for an organization to try and force you to stay somewhere and then demand you apply for a waiver to stay somewhere else if they are not paying for it? AAU Does. Do you think its ok to try and require coaches to provide personal details about you and your child to personnel who have no direct affiliation with the organization for which you are a member? AAU Does. BACKGROUND: The Amateur Athletic Union is one of the largest non-profit volunteer sports organizations in the United States. It hosts several national events each year one being the AAU Junior Olympics. As always when hosting a meet AAU provides a list of preferred providers for lodging in the host cities. However, over the last two years it has testing a housing policy that (http://www.aaujrogames.org/Hotels.aspx): 1. Requires you to use their web site to book hotel reservations for the event attending. As stated on their web site this year "participants must use hotel accommodations as advertised by the local Host." They have locked up so that the local hotels will not provide you a reservation without going through AAU’s travel agency. 2. Provide your child's hotel name and confirmation number in order to register for the event. 3. If you don't want to use the hotel's they provided, you must apply for a waiver/exemption through the local host convention and travel bureau (CVB). In which you must fill out a form, provide personal details, and a copy of your driver's license to the CVB. Even if you live in the host city, they want you to apply for this waiver. PETITION: If you think the above restrictions on YOUTH AMATEUR ATHLETES is unfair, please sign this petition and share it with your friends and let’s keep protect our rights. I understand that having preferred provider’s helps to keep costs down and promote business. However, the end doesn’t justify the means. Most people would use the hotels promoted by AAU if they met their needs and had good rates! As a parent of 4 most hotels don’t accommodate a family of six. And when you are travelling for a week and need to be able to settle down in a place that’s comfortable and allows you to rest, I shouldn’t have to get approval to spend my money where I choose, especially when I am paying for my child to participate in the event. NONE OF THIS IS FREE!!!! So please help me to send a loud and clear message to AAU and other organizations that look to follow suit that we are a country of choice. Ultimately if they persist with such policies, I will choose to allow my children to compete elsewhere!!!! TELL AAU TO REPEAL IT'S CURRENT HOUSING POLICY!!!!
