Name: Linda Bonura on Aug 23, 2006Comments: It seems to me that the BC-SPCA needs to get their priorities straight. They need to think about what they are actually trying to accomplish. Animal cruelty comes in many forms, and to condone one kind in order to help another is not only a contradiction, it is just plain wrong.Flag

Name: Brandi Bennett on Aug 24, 2006Comments: By serving meat at a fundraiser to help out animals, not only do you make yourselves a laughingstock, but you also blatanly contradict what you're supposed to be standing up for. Save a dog, eat a crab I don't think so... Animals should all be shown equal kindness, regardless of their status on the food chain.Flag

Name: Kat Ranalletti on Aug 24, 2006Comments: It doesn't make any sense to have a charity event for animals if other animals are being held abused, tortured and eventually killed. Where is the logic The message is confusing and blatantly wrong-. Any animal event should only serve vegan food-it's that simple!!!Flag

Name: Louise Page on Aug 24, 2006Comments: I read with disbelief that live crabs were to be boiled in order to raise funds for the SPCA. There is a growing movement towards the understanding that we live in a time of cruelty towards animals - intensive farming methods, animals for entertainment etc. The SPCA should be the leaders in promoting the attitude that all creatures are sentient beings and therefore deserve respect, compassion and kindness. I am not against eating meat but I will not eat produce that has been tortured for the duration of it's life in order to provide food. Free range and organic is the only food that should be provided at events such as these.Flag

Name: John Markham on Aug 24, 2006Comments: Why would anyone who has any compassion for animals suggest that organic meat is acceptable at fund raising events by any animal organization. It's the 21st century. Meat is meat regardless as to how it has been raised.Flag

Name: Laura Anderson on Aug 24, 2006Comments: I agree with Mr. Markham. Eating meat, fish, or fowl, at any event is unacceptable. 182 needs to rethink her priorties. We must all band together and put an end to this horrendous human activity. Vegan is the only way to go during fund drives. Thank you.Flag

Name: Jill Gershen on Aug 24, 2006Comments: It's pretty hypocritical for an organization dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals (by its very title) to raise funds for the care of certain animals by having events in which others are consumed. This becomes especially distasteful when the consumption of those "food" animals supports the cruel and abusive slaughter industry & corporate factory farming practices. It makes good sense for a "society for the protection of cruelty to animals" to promote the termination of cruelty to ALL animals and not to be biased in favor of just those species with whom we share our homes.Flag

Name: Donna Goudet on Aug 24, 2006Comments: I agree, no meat at fund events. I'll bet any money that 182 is a member of the SPCA. SHAME ON HER FOR SUGGESTING THAT ORGANIC MEAT BE USED TO SAVE OTHER ANIMALS. She is an offence to all who have signed this petition and should have her name removed.Flag

Name: Bridget W. Curran on Aug 24, 2006Comments: It is incomprehensible to me how an organization whose mandate includes "call attention to unacceptable practices that harm animals" and "investigate and seek to prevent acts of animal cruelty" can not only condone the eating of animals and the inherent cruelty thereof, but promote such cruelty in order to raise funds!Flag

Name: Melodie on Aug 24, 2006Comments: Good day.......I am writing in concern over your contradictory fundraising events. An animal welfare group such as yours (Society for PREVENTION of CRUELTY to animals) should carefully consider other options for raising funds other than having a "Bobbing for weenies", "Barbeque Hot dogs", "Doggie Bobbin'" on their menu. I am sure you are aware of the unseen cruelty (from birth to death) that goes into a "hot dog". There are many tasty and highly nutritious alternatives to pig dogs(hot dogs in carnivore terms), try Tofurky Vegan sausages, which come in a variety of yummy flavours, Yves Cuisine, Money's Mushroom garden burgers, Chik/n/grill(also vegetarian - from Money's Mushrooms), or just plain old Portebello burgers with avacodo, onions, tomatoes and hot sauce. I have word that your Prince Rupert Branch cancelled the crab boil slated for August 27 th because of bad public relations, please follow suit and try the compassionate alternative. Until these fundraising events have changed to tasty vegetarian or vegan alternatives, I will not be supporting any more of your events. Sincerely, Melodie.Flag
