I support the creation of official, off-leash dog parks, runs, and/or areas in Southwest Boston.
Off-leash dog parks provide a place for dogs to socialize with each other, getting the physical and mental exercise they need to be good companions.
In addition, such off-leash areas benefit the community in general by becoming a gathering-place for dog-owners, who can revitalize a little-used area. Other community benefits are:
- they promote responsible pet ownership
- they also promote public health and safety
- they provide a tool for realistic enforcement of dog control laws
- well-exercised dogs make better companions -- and better neighbors
- for elderly and disabled people, a dog park is often the only accessible place to bring their dogs to socialize
- dog parks help keep the rest of the area
