Name: Joe Nelson on Jun 4, 2007Comments: An illconceived and ridiculous idea. Targetting all dog owners to combat the very few irresponsible ones. This is nothing short of bullying!! Southwark Council should concentrate on making Southwark a better place to live for it's residents including dog owners. Most dog owners ARE responsible and do not need to be criminalised for enjoying Southwarks parks and open spaces. WE MATTER TOO.Flag

Name: Peter Johnson on Jun 6, 2007Comments: Giving the dog a run is good for owners and dogs alike. I cannot understand how the dog being on a lead will cause the owner to pick up its mess or stop it tearing at plants, if that is what the owner wants it to do. In densely populated urban areas some people are always going to be irresponsible, whatever the law is. We must resist the urge to ban and pay more respect to the freedom of law-abiding citizens.Flag

Name: Sue Amos on Jun 7, 2007Comments: Dog owners use the park throughout the year, and are effectively the eyes and ears of the parks due to the lack of permanent staff patrolling. More dog waste bins and education might help resolve the dog waste issue.Flag

Name: Cllr Susan Elan Jones on Jun 7, 2007Comments: Southwark Council could and should have a policy that pleases both responsible dog owners and people who do not like dogs. The blanket ban is an ill-thought out and expensive nonsense that will criminalise decent, law-abiding people and their pets.Flag

Name: Cliona Roberts on Jun 7, 2007Comments: We must all try to stop this draconian law. We are the main users of the park in all weathers. My dog when he is off the lead is still under control but allowed to do what comes natural to his instincts and nature. Statistcally most dog attacks happen within the home and with dangerous breeds like PITBULLS disguised cunningly as Staffs. Keep the Byelaw as it is!Flag

Name: Daisy Meredith on Jun 7, 2007Comments: Dogs are not designed to be kept on leads, they need freedom to sniff, forrage and do what comes natural to their nature. Dogs bond people in the community. I know more people in Southwark now because of my dog.Flag

Name: Dave Dargie on Jun 7, 2007Comments: They can't enforce the existing laws in parks about drinking alcohol, dropping litter, or anything else, why should we pay for some authoritarian idiots to dream up this stuff when nothing is ever done about any of it - rubbish!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jun 7, 2007Comments: My dog is good natured and loving towards every person and dog he comes in contact with. We all get such pleasure from running and playing in the parks of Southwark that to impose an' on the lead ' policy woud be unexceptable for all. We are conciderate of others and always clean up any dog waste even if it isn't from our pooch.Flag

Name: Mr Lee Hickenbottom on Jun 7, 2007Comments: I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments of this petition - I am a responsible dog owner who looks after his local park along with the many other dog owners who use it approximately 6 times daily. Our dogs need to run and play to remain the social animals they are.Flag

Why make everyone else suffer for a couple of people who shouldnt be allowed a dog as they can not be bothered to train it I hope you have success in this as it will spread if they get to do it, keep those signatures coming!!!Flag

It is never the dog that should be blamed but the owner so perhaps instead of this ridiculously oppressive law Southwark should consider being the first to demand the reinstatement of a dog license at a fee designed to stop the yobs with dogs who threaten us all!Flag

Name: Roger Wilsher on Jun 8, 2007Comments: If we want to bring up our puppies to be frustrated, unsociable dogs then we must follow the rules being planned by the London Borough of Southwark. However, I don't think any of us really want the problems that this will induce - especailly as we now have an Animal Welfare Act that effectively makes it legally binding that dog owners have to give their animals the exercise they need and deserve - which cannot be done off lead. I have been walking Otto, my chocolate Labrador, in Southwark Park since he was born five years ago. He has never been on a lead in the park and has never caused anyone a nuisance. We always pick up all our pooh and often other dog's too, if we come across it near our own. Indeed, we ask other dog owners who are not so fastidious to do so too - and even give them our pooh bags if they don't have any. Indeed, we have had no problems from other dog owners in the park in all the time we have been using this and other green spaces in the area. So why are we becoming so anti-dog these days Why is the council stoking people's fears of man's BEST FRIEND!! It's very different from the past. One of my dog loving friends was born 60 years ago in Holborn, next to QueenFlag
