Guy BurchIt is completely ridiculous that the free press should cave in to bullying. The offended Christians were perfectly able to protest and the paper to cover that story, but why should gay opinion always be expected to keep quite or be airbrushed out.

RebeccaSame sex relationships happen in all sorts of species and have existed in human relationships since before Christianity existed. Retract the apology.

John EtteridgeThe 'Offense Defence' is often used to deflect criticism/analysis of religious views. Let's show some resolve and say "enough is enough" to this group of loonies and their invisible friend.
Dr Brian RobinsonYes, Echo, please do as the petition asks. Milton Keynes

Iain ThomsonFair's fair. This man has been shown to be a bullying fraud. Please put the page back up.
Keith DaviesA shameful betrayal of journalistic integrity.

Alun WilliamsonFree speech is a basic human right that we should all cherish, regardless of our religious or political viewpoints; the downside, of course, is an acceptance that some people will say and write things that we find offensive. So the Echo article upset a few bigoted Christians? Big deal - the knife cuts both ways doesn't it? It’s the same basic right which allows Christian nutters live 'Christian Voice' to proclaim that atheists like me will burn in hell. I can't believe you caved in to this narrow-minded bunch of bullies and apologised for a perfectly reasonable article.

John WarburtonI'm an atheist, but I have views and opinions as important to me as those that religious people hold. My views have been formed by open debate; criticism and approval. That's how healthy democracies thrive. Religious views are merely political views with a supernatural basis, and should, in a thriving democracy, be open to criticism and approval in the same way. If any political movement, with or without a supernatural element, can stifle debate in a democracy, that democracy is threatened.

Paul LattinThis organisation represents one of the greatest threats to freedom of thought, action, and speech in the United Kingdom. At first it appeared sufficient to treat Mr Green merely with derision, but he must be prevented from allowing his bigoted views to take effect in the public domain.

Paul DaviesThe article that was printed was an attempt to show Stephen Green and the handful of followers that their thought process could be turned on its head. While the fundamental interpretation exists, the bible is open for all sorts of interpretation. That is why this article needs to be republished. When you allow people to interpret text to back up their foolish, evil ideas, they should be prepared to have their ideals shown for what they truly are. Republish - The world should open to all viewpoints - even Stephen Green sadly.
Dominic ReimboldTake back the apology. Why do you pander to promoters of superstition over hard won human rights issues? Would you apologise to the TinTin Fan club as well if they said you had caused them offence?.
martin stempIt took hundreds of years to get the right of free speech. Kowtowing to religious bigots is an erosion of this right and you should ashamed of this spineless act. Re-instate now!
johnny abboDo not apologise if you are right and they are wrong
William James
Gareth Fox-WilliamsWe should uphold the right of free speech and not kow-tow to religious bully-boys. Christians and believers in other religions are free to state their case and others should be equally free to challenge and criticise them.
