Rough Draft Statement To: Southbrook Community Property Owner Southbrook Neighborhood Park Initiative The History of our Proposed Park: Those who have purchased homes in the Southbrook Sub-Division were promised by the builders/developers (Seeno) a 5+ acre neighborhood park at the corner of Canyon Hills Drive and Gold Hill Road. When we purchased our home in 2008, we were expecting our first son. Like most new homeowners, we were excited about a park being built for him to enjoy. So why does the writer of this petition not have a Park for her 3 year old to play in? The Background: The land for the park (find out who donated the land for the park). The City of Fairfield has ($$) in a set-aside account to design and build the Southbrook Neighborhood Park (fact check this). Really need background info. So What’s The Problem? When the city gave permission for developers to build in our area in (200?); they did not anticipate a General Fund shortage. The city of Fairfield no longer has tax dollars to maintain new parks. Our sub-division and others in Fairfield are in the same situation. Without the tax revenue for the maintenance, our park will not be built. So What Happens Now? The Solution: Southbrook Homeowners will have the opportunity to vote to form a Landscape and Lighting Maintenance District (check). This is a special tax District referred to as a (???). The bottom line: If we don’t tax ourselves for park maintenance, our park will not be built! The cost to maintain a 5+ Acre park will depend on what we decide to build. Preliminary cost estimates are ($$) per year. The cost will be about $40-$80 per year per property owner. (About 2 Starbucks Lattes per month!) So What Is The Next Step? The City of Fairfield will send a ballot out to each property owner living near the proposed Southbrook Neighborhood park site giving them the opportunity to vote YES or NO on forming the Tax District to self-tax ourselves for our park maintenance. If you vote NO, then the park will never get built. Before the City sends out the ballot, they have requested that we self-ballot to determine the interest level for forming the Landscape and Lighting Maintenance District. The City does not want to spend the money on balloting unless we can show them that we are willing to self-tax ourselves to maintain our park. Currently our children are… Even if you don’t have children, a park will increase the desirability and value of your home! So please sign YES on our Petition! Let the City know that we are willing to tax ourselves a few dollars a month so our children and families have a safe place to play and exercise. Please include your address and one vote per property please. Thank you for your support in getting our neighborhood park built.
