South Carolinians Oppose Common Core State Standards

South Carolina adopted the Common Core State Standards with little or no input from its citizens. We oppose the standards on the basis of poor content and loss of state control over education. We oppose the spending of taxpayer dollars on a controversial unproven program that we believe will be detrimental to our state, our educational system, and our children.

Furman University Education Professor Paul Thomas on Common Core:

The Brown Center Report on American Education, Tom Loveless:

  • Brandon prado Common core is not what I want for my kids. Keep it out of South Carolina!

  • Shannon Martin My son is failing math this year and he has done fine in the previous years. These learning procedures really are just nonsense.

  • Anonymous My child has a learning disability in reading comprehension and ADHD. He can not do the math. He is in danger of failing because the 4th grade math makes no sense to him. His resource teacher couldn't do the math. If the teacher can't do it how do you expect a child to do it?
