SOS (Save Our Scotiabank) Avonmore

The SOS, Save 0ur Scotiabank and Rural Dignity Campaign goes far beyond the dozen communities in eastern Ontario currently served by a single profitable bank, the Scotiabank branch in Avonmore that is now targeted for closure.  This issue affects the lifestyle, families, environment, and businesses in all rural communities across Canada and communities around the world.

Communities everywhere are being redesigned and redefined in terms of how they can benefit the corporate game plan regardless of how it affects the local citizenry.  Whether it involves the closing of a rural bank or the impact on communities down river from oil exploration in the Tar Sands, unless we stand up and show our resolve to maintain the quilted balance of our communities and quality of life; we will end as victims of the stockholders driving their corporate profit based agenda running our country and ruining our lives.

It is time corporations like Scotiabank realized they need a second opinion. Their success is based on a consumer or business relationship that over the long run, requires a mutually beneficial outcome and not short term quarterly profits that scars its supporters.  

Our fight, in Avonmore, is just one battle of what now appears to be our never-ending campaign to preserve rural dignity, our sense of community and the values that hold us together. This is one battle of many skirmishes underway by thousands of others in Canada's heartland communities to maintain the status quo.  We offer a sense of this situation and our frustration through the links to our website and Facebook page and an opportunity to enhance the lives of your neighbours and friends.

We ask you to pledge your support to this campaign, by signing this petition, and committing to choose financial institutions and corporate products based on how they contribute to the overall benefit of Canadian communities, socially, environmentally and economically. 

By signing this petition and commenting, you are speaking out through our social media links, and saying to Scotiabank in this case, “I am mad as heck and not going to take it anymore.”  Our needs as Canadians are no less important, and probably more so, than those of the stockholders.  If we do not do it, it will not get done.
