Comments: Electives are what keep most kids coming back to school each day, not to mention what sets students apart on college applications. Don't put these students at a disadvantage.

Comments: Education is the last thing that should be cut. We want a better future for our future generations. This is NOT the way to get there.

Comments: I will be affected by these new cuts for my entire high school experience and since the number of required credits is being reduced I will have a smaller chance of getting into the college of my choice! SAVE OUR SCHOOL!

Comments: The education fund for school year 2012-2013 is 73 million dollars. The bulk of this is staff, teacher, and administration salary. Instead of cutting programs that adversely affect students perhaps this is when everyone at Moline should bite the bullet and accept a 4% reduction in pay, expenses, etc. instead of watching dozens of selected teachers take a 100% cut in job elimination. An average salary of $50,000 would result in a payroll reduction of $83 per pay check. This is considerably fairer for all teachers and students. This $83 per paycheck less would result in a district surplus of $125,000. The math is simple--the choices are hard, but if you are one of the teachers who pulls the unlucky straw of unemployment--the choice suddenly looks much simpler. Save the programs, do it for the kids--take a 4 percent pay cut and realize times are tough for everyone everywhere--but tough times are much different than having your teaching career eliminated because of budget issues. Let's work together and rework the teaching contract and agree to share the sacrifice. This will save the arts programs, the elective science, business programs, etc. And this will save the teaching positions of some wonderful, dedicate, and inspiring educators. To me the answer is simple--difficult yes...but simple. If something like I am suggesting isn't implemented then we are looking at the same situation one year from now with more cuts--but this time in core areas. It's only a matter of time (and a very short time) that huge reductions in staff occur. This can be prevented but it will have to come from the teacher and not Allendale or the School Board. They are working within the framework of an existing teaching contract. I don't think anyone really realizes just how dire of financial situation the district (and Moline is certainly not alone in Illinois or the nation) is in. The annual deficits are ballooning and there really is only one answer--will everyone involved do the right thing? That is the question.

Comments: I'm really shocked that the school board would do something like this. I take two electives (engineering and band) and was planning on taking a foreign language next year. Because of these cuts I might have to quit band which is one of my favorite things, or engineering, which is what I plan to do in life. I sincerely hope that the school board makes some changes to this budget, for the sake of our educations and futures.

Comments: When I attended Moline School District, it was the envy of other cities and school district. Times are hard everywhere, with everyone. Now is not the time to take education away...you need to work harder to find ways to keep these children marketable so they will have the chance to succeed!

Comments: My son just began attending this school this year and all it takes is one walk through their hallways and you can see how needed the program is! The Moline School District is making it seem like the special needs kids are not worthy of the education they deserve and require, for some of these kids it may be the only constant in their lives.
