I say cut spending someplace else and not BHASED or the electives. If this so passes, then the district needs to take a hard look at providing transportation for the kids coming from Coal Valley. Us taxpayers pay enough in taxes to the school, so they should be using those funds wisely.Flag

Name: Brandon on Dec 18, 2012Comments: Cutting education is not the answer. The only thing that there is to be gained is dollars. Whereas, what is lost is far more important. We cannot afford to harm the education of the future leaders of this country. This cant be just about money, it has to be about what is good for everyone. Cutting non-core classes may seem like a good idea, however, the goal of any school has to be educating and creating well rounded students for whatever comes after high school. Cutting the classes that kids like myself take, specifically to do that, is not the answer.Flag

Name: Alice H Loff on Dec 19, 2012Comments: I have two sons who graduated from Moline High School. Both were in band for 4 years. One took 4 years of Spanish, and one took two years of Spanish and 2 years of art. If the proposed cuts go through, the quality of education possible at MHS will be seriously eroded, leaving students far less prepared for either the work force or college. Lowering the number of credit hours required to graduate puts our students at a grave disadvantage when competing with students from other schools in applying for college admission and scholarships, workforce apprenticeship programs and other areas. We can't cripple our children's future. Perhaps the Moline City Council can help figure out how to replace some of the critical tax dollars they have given away in TIFs.Flag

There are plenty of alternatives to utilize when reducing a school deficit, but going straight for education to save the education of students wouldn't only be ironic, but inconsiderate to many.Flag

Name: Jacklyn K. Weigandt on Feb 27, 2013Comments: Consider discontinuing the four year physical education requirement to allow students more choice in academic and arts courses. Keep early bird PE not just for the reason that high achieving students benefit from the additional class period, but also for the fact that less bullying of students occurs during early bird. Keep the safe haven for students who need it.Flag
