For the first time in many years my sister has felt at ease when sending her blind, autistic daughter to school. Taking this program away is borderline abusive and I say abusive due to the fact you dont know where you will put these children once you move them. Not fair to the many of parents who now have to try and figure out a way for their special needs child to go to school.Flag

Name: Susan DiGioia on Dec 15, 2012Comments: After listening to the Superintendents comments on the Channel 8 news that these changes won't effect the students at MHS I find cold and impersonal. It is demeaning to the teachers, families and students that are looking for a career in the arts. Trying to clone students into little test models will fail in the long run when all beauty and passion are removed from the schools, our history is based on the freedom to be and choose what and where are passion takes us. Music and art combined with logic and skill can take us anywhere. achieve any goal.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Dec 15, 2012Comments: The U.S. has been falling behind other nations in education. This is not the time to restrict the opportunity to learn. If there is not enough money in the budget, the cuts should be made in athletics, not education. Education is far more important. I also think it is a mistake to sever ties with BHAEC. The staff there is very skilled in helping the children involved. If the superintendent and board members want to show leadership, they could lead by example by cutting their own pay first. I applaude the students that started this petition for caring about their education and taking responsible action.Flag

This is her ambition and so by closing down the liberal arts programs we liberal have no choice but to move out of Moline to find another school. Our tax dollars will go to another city.Flag

Name: Tessa Sommers on Dec 15, 2012Comments: There are many things wrong with the cuts the school board is planning to make. The Black Hawk Outreach Center is clearly better-suited for the needs of its students than Moline High School is, and severing ties with it will affect many students and families. Furthermore, the electives situation is unarguably ridiculous, shortsighted, and harmful. Being a music performance major and going to a university that charges nearly $40,000 annually, it was necessary for me to take two years of foreign language, four years of band, and four years of engineering in order to meet the requirements of the scholarships I received to attend college. Without these scholarships, I simply could not afford to attend my university, period. With these changes, the undeniable fact is that the students, their education, and their future will suffer. Everybody is entitled to a good education.Flag

If MHS is to remain competitive in the education and arts, they need to find other ways of cutting budget. I know the superintendent and others in the administration receive high wages and they need to look at cutting their own wages instead of what takes care of the students they are responsible for.Flag
