Elliott Aviation Costs the District Funding

"A bill awaiting Gov. Pat Quinn's signature would exempt Elliot Aviation Inc. from paying property taxes on land it leases from the Quad City International Airport" says The Dispatch on its Decenmber 12th issue. According the newspaper, Elliot Aviation is going to benifit from House Bill 4110 passed by the Illinios House and Senate. The Moline School District opposes this because 60% of all property taxes go directly to the School District. If Elliot Aviation is tax exempt then the Moline School District will lose 150,000 annually. That is enough to keep at least two full time teachers that would otherwise be cut. Elliot Aviation has refused to talk with Distrct Board members about supplementing all of the schools' lost income. This tax excemption will be permanent if Gov. Quinn signs it. Please contact your represenatives (Sen Jacobs, Rep Verschoore and Morthland) and call the office of the Governor as well as the Quad City Chamber of Commerce to protest the tax excemption. If Bill 4110 is passed our school district will face even greater cuts in education.
