With both Joe McElderry and Rage Against the Machine indirectly signed to Sony BMG, you benefited greatly from the most exciting contest for the top spot in years. 

During the campaign for 'Killing in the Name' to reach No 1, people who joined the Facebook group and downloaded the track generously gave to the UK homeless charity Shelter. Also, Rage Against the Machine have promised to donate their windfall from the contest. 

We therefore ask you to take this opportunity to also give a substantial amount to Shelter. As we write this, the total donation that individuals have made, including Gift Aid, amounts to very nearly £100,000 and we suggest that you may wish to match this sum to demonstrate your commitment to the community and to the fans who buy the recordings of your artists. That way, everybody truly wins.
