Solidarity with the Scousers: a foreign pledge to the LFC execs
I'm an American living in New York City, and I'm a supporter of Liverpool Football Club.
So, in solidarity with the LFC supporters who today staged a mid-match walkout in protest of rising ticket prices, I'm pledging that this year, 2016, I won't purchase anything from the club shop.
I periodically spend a non-trivial amount of money on items for myself and gifts for others. Not this year. This year I spend $0.
This year I won't purchase the new LFC shirt, as I've done many times before. Which means New Balance and Standard Chartered will get just a little bit less of what they've already paid for.
Here's hoping the the
club executives do right by the people who make this club what it is —
the people whom I admire even more after today taking an organized
stand against an unjustifiable price-hike scheme. It would cost the club
relatively little to make a truly rewarding investment in them.
TV money = sustainably affordable match days for the working class and the kids. That is the right thing to do.
I know this pledge isn't much, but it's what I can do from where I am. Join me if you like.
Up the Reds.
