To Prime Minister Viktor Orban:
In light of a new Hungarian law that will force the retirement of many scholars working in universities over the age of 62, we, the undersigned, international scholars and professionals wish to express our solidarity with our Hungarians colleagues at this time. We understand that a solid university system is impossible with the threat of losing large numbers of the most senior faculty members who perform the essential tasks of mentoring, advising, and actively teaching undergraduates, graduates and post-graduates.
Therefore, we most emphatically ask the Hungarian government to reconsider and rescind this law as its implementation shall gravely damage higher education in Hungary and, ultimately, the people of Hungary.
International Scholars and Professionals in Solidarity with Hungarian Scholars and Professionals
