The citizens of the Seattle area are truly blessed to live within minutes of this amazing forest -- one square mile of untouched wild lands. With a dense forest canopy, miles of multi-use trails open to the public, and extensive habitat for wildlife, Soaring Eagle park is worth a drive of several hours. But this gem is right in our back yard, within the greater Seattle metropolitan area! And for over a decade users of diverse interests have shared the trails -- one of the few places to do so in all of King County. Proposed King County Council legislation places Soaring Eagle in immediate threat: Proposed Ordinance No. 2007-0353 was introduced Sept 4th by King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert to transfer 30 acres of Soaring Eagle Park from King County to the City of Sammamish, to be cleared for active recreation sports fields. The proposed ordinance is scheduled to be considered by the Committee of the Whole (COW) on Monday, Oct 22. We need your help! We need to prove beyond all doubt that this is a valued regional park used by groups and individuals all over the Greater Seattle area. We need to tell King County in no uncertain terms that clearing 30 acres for active recreation sports fields will change the park forever: - Loss of 30 acres of natural area will displace wildlife already displaced by the mind-boggling rate of development on the Sammamish Plateau. - Loss of 30 acres of trails will significantly alter the user experience. - King County MUST NOT give any part of this Park away! Please sign the petition to let them know what you think. **UPDATE** King County has unanimously voted to approve ordinance 2007-0353 to transfer 30 acres to the City of Sammamish for ball fields. We are disappointed in this decision and can only hope that the City of Sammamish will be a good steward of this land and listen to your input going forward. **Note that you do not have to make a donation to iPetitions.com to sign the petition. Any donations made go to iPetitions.com and are completely unrelated to Soaring Eagle Park.**
