Comments: While I don't think that the cannon should be outlawed, I'm appauled by the reactions of the town, and particularly by those of Brett's friends, ditching him on his 16th birthday. Brett, I hope your injury heals and I hope you sue the pants off someone.

Comments: We fire a cannon during BYU home games. It's a fun tradition that certainly makes the games a little more enjoyable. But I'd gladly give it up if someone ever got hurt. Sorry your town is full of gits, dude.

Comments: "Tradition" is the worst and most despicable reason to do something. If "tradition" is all your town has, you know what, don't have a town.

Comments: The People of Brett Karch's town are acting ridiculous and not at all like a community in the United States should. They should be ashamed and show some humanity towards Brett in his time of need.

Comments: This "community" should be fully ashamed of themselves. In New Zealand, thankfully, people come first, not stupid traditions. I hope Brett gets well soon, I also hope that the silly cannon "tradition" gets booted. I think it's disgusting that if Brett was a football player, it would have been different. It's also disgusting on how the "community" are so blind, cowardly and stupid. Get well Brett, all of us here in New Zealand hope the best for you.

Comments: Hey Karch, hope you're doing ok and that you'll still be able to pursue that dream of being in the USMC. If you want it bad enough, stick to your rehabilitation, listen to your doctors, and never give up. It just a waiting game. Hope you recover 100% and that your friends smarten up. Good luck.

Comments: Brett, It's always tough getting through an unpleasant time. The great part is that it doesn't last forever. You come across like a young man that knows where he wants to go in life. Hang tight, you'll get there. When you eventually leave home for college, you'll really start to realize just how small your home town is. I know, growing up in a small suburb of Portland, Oregon - there's folks that just won't ever leave there. Grow, experience and learn. You'll have a fine life.

Comments: Hang in there bud, it is deplorable that a community would care more about a cannon than a human being. Those who treaten you or show you that much disrespect are the lowest of the low. I hope they realize what they are putting you and your family through.

Comments: Get well, Brett. I'm from a small town that loves football and worships the game more than anything else, so I can understand what you're going through. A friend of mine who was a three-time state championship winner and had three rings to show for it was tossed aside like an unwanted rag doll after he graduated. He later committed suicide, because he couldn't handle the loneliness of once being so great and then becoming nothing. That example right there shows you how much these idiot townspeople really care for their sport more than the people. Once you move out, then you'll realize who your real friends are.
