Stop the Sale of Live Snakehead Fish in British Columbia
The northern snakehead fish or, "Frankenfish" is an invasive species native to China, Russia, North Korea and South Korea. The snakehead primarily preys on smaller crustaceans, but has been occasionally known to eat birds and attack small dogs/other small animals. This fish has an unusual respiratory system allowing it to survive up to four days on land. British Columbia is the only place in North America which allows the live sale of snakehead fish. People purchase them live to either cook them or keep them as pets. In British Columbia the snakehead fish has no known enemies. Recently, in a Burnaby pond a snakehead fish has been spotted. It is likely the fish was released by a former pet owner. Until this snakehead can be caught it poses a threat to our environment. Please take the time to sign this petition to end the live sale of snakehead fish in British Columbia, thank you.
