Name: David And Renee Hill on Nov 15, 2007Comments: We should not support fossil fuel energy exploration through a more precious resource of underground water. This risks are high, the probability of finding gas is low, even according to Lexam, and the impacts will be high. There has to be a better place for this kind of exploration outside of the SLV. The SLV is IDEAL for further solar and renewable energy development. At the least, make sure we have a full environmental study to establish a baseline to monitor impacts before any exploration takes place. Thank you.Flag

Name: Cindy Pearson on Nov 16, 2007Comments: My children, and many more, travel to school Mon-Fri. down the only road in and out of Crestone. It seems apparent that if the oil and gas drillling occurs there will be heavy traffic of large trucks and transportation of toxic materials. We have lived in Crestone for 12 years and chose this area for the clean air, water and healthy living. I provide mostly organic food for my children and we are organic gardeners. It will not be realistic for us to continue living in this place, "our home" if our water is polluted, the air full of toxic particulates and dust and our beautiful way of living is destroyed. Please, do not allow oil and gas drilling on The National Wildlife Refuge. Additionally, do not allow oil and gas drilling through the largest, pristine aquifer in North America. How can anyone believe that is okayFlag

Name: David G. Davis on Nov 17, 2007Comments: Is it possible to believe that drilling 14000 feet through a pristine aquifer to then pierce the Earth's crust in search of "minerals" that contamination of that aquifer will not hppen Does the ownership of mineral rights also give a company the right to destroy an ecosystem, the life of everything and everyone downstream in the Rio Grande is at risk. What is the real value here And what are the penalties for doing such a thing Is the Colorado plateau a national sacrifice area. Look at the damage done in Rifle, La Veta, and trinidad. If you represent the people then you need to have the cojones to protect the people and life. Lexam needs to have a prenuptual agreement with the state outlining severe penalties for contamination of the aquifer, the ecosystem and the lives of all beings and things at risk. That penalty should be part of any EIS evaluation. Wars are being fought over water right now. Clean water is a vanishing element. Water is more than a resource, it is life itself. Think about that as you drink water today. Lexam is incapable of manufacturing clean water. Once contaminated the process is irreversible. Do you want to be part of that by allowing this crime to be perpetratedFlag

Name: Holly Thomas on Nov 20, 2007Comments: The residents of Colorado and the San Louis Valley have already learned throgh the Summitville experience, how ill conceived and poorly substantiated businesses can cause enduring and long standing harm to the environment, but huge expenses to the state as we continue to work to clean up the superfund site in a unique and once prostine mountain valley. This plan is ill-conceived and ill-spported, and threatens a resource more precious than oil or gold-- our water. The disignation of the Valley as a Green Zone will spur the kind of development that will generate an ENDURING tax base in the Valley and the state, as buisnesses choose to be associated with that image and perspective. It also generates enduring income to the state rather than allowing a small company to take the resouces, and take the money OUT fo the state. And finally, such development should be criminal, We have learned fromteh wreck of Valdez that the probability is ONE that there will be an oil spill and pollution, and that the supposed remeditaiton from such a spilll will never happen and can never be compensated. It is a litte known fact that Exxon has still not paid those who were damaged by the oil pollution resulting from that wreck. It is crazy to think that this small company has the wherewithall to even begin to compensate all those who will be damaged by its mistakes, which, just like Summitville, will not be discovered until long after the company has taken its oil/gas and moved on. DO not allow this proposal to occur. We have too many positive options for our land and its people. thanks for your consideration Holly ThomasFlag
