The Postmaster General announced that the U.S. Post Service was considering closing 3,653 post offices nationwide, and the Skyway Station was among those listed. Post office closures are decided upon as a cost-cutting measure, due to the decline in mail volume. Each of the post offices in the Seattle Metro area will be evaluated by the Seattle District, to determine if alternative means are available. If this or any other post office closes, employees, some who have worked for over 30+ years, will lose their jobs and possibly their homes from loss of income.
