Since the preseason in the NFL is not true competition, I propose to get rid of it. Let's use the 4 planned preseason games as in-season games but give them 1/2 point each. To balance it, let's give 1+1/2 points to each of the last 4 games of the season. The other 12 games will count as one point. There will be 20 games total points per team per season. The season does not change any. Players get paid for risking injury. Fans get to see real football games. Point system pretty much keeps every team in the hunt till the very end.
