Comments: I'd like to review the ordinance. Why can't you provide benches...as long as you have safe room for themwhat about physical differences ie:a small tour bus of morbidly obese club membersAre you to turn them away discriminately

Comments: I strongly support Skinny's restaurant. There is more than enough ample parking to enable more than 8 chairs outside. How pick and ridiculous can you get! There has always been seating outside. The only problem is NON customers parking in Skinny's lot who are going to the beach and not patronizing the business. Maybe you should control all the illegal parking for the public beach instead of whining and complaining about more than 8 chairs. Skinny's one of my favorite spots on the Island and too many chairs has never been an issue before. Thank you.

Comments: Skinny's should be able to continue having more than 8 chairs outside. The number of chairs has never been an issue before this. All the beach goers illegally parking in their lot is an issue not chairs! Skinny's is a Favorite spot to go for my entire family!

Comments: Outside seating is a main attraction to tourists and residents when choosing a place to eat. We love the Island because it is one of the most beautiful places in Florida. Why wouldn't you want to sit out side and enjoy that I think there should be more restaurants with outside seating like Skinny's, so you can take in the beauty of Anna Maria Island and enjoy a great meal at the same time.

Comments: Skinny's place is a family establishment, it has a "beach" feel and taking the outside seats away from this long time locally owned place would take away from it's island atmosphere" and take away from it's patrons traditions of "grabbing a burger outside after the beach". To implement a restriction like this would cause more negativity than positive outcomes.

Comments: YOU TRY TO GET MORE TOURIST TO THE ISLAND AND SEEM TO DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO DISCOURAGE THEM FROM ENJOYING ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS YOU HAVE TO OFFER. I HAVE BEEN GOING TO SKINNY'S (AND DUFFY'S BEFORE IT) FOR 35 YEARS. IT'S ONE OF THE THINGS I LOOK FORWARD TO WHEN I COME DOWN THERE. I ALSO ENJOY THE BEACH HOUSE AND SANDBAR, BUT FOR LUNCH, IT'S HARD TO BEAT SKINNY'S AND DUFFY'S. DON'T LET INTERNAL KNITPICKING RUIN IT FOR ALL OF US. THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER ISLANDS TO VACATION ON THAT DON'T LET THIS KIND OF NONSENSE GET IN THEIR WAY. I WOULD HATE TO HAVE TO CHANGE AND GO TO ONE, BUT SOME OF THE RIDICULOUS THINGS GOING ON ON ANNA MARIA ISLAND MAY JUST FORCE ME TO DO SO. WAKE UP AND SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING!

Comments: A lot of cities and small towns are movnig towards a bag ban. Brownsville, Texas charges for bags, and they are now banned outright on South Padre Island. So the Padre stores are using free paper sacks that are very sturdy and reusable. In Salida, Safeway used to offer a 5cent per bag discount if you brought your own. It's not a lot of money, but it made me A LOT more aware of carrying my own totes. Then it went away and I started using plastic again. I believe an incentive like a discount, rather than a fee per bag is a better option. However, I also didn't think about the tourist issue Duke wrote about here, and it made me wonder if we couldn't come up with some sort of stations where you could use a sack (non-plastic of course), leave a sack , kind of like the borrow a bicycle program in Amsterdam. I realize it would take the honor system and self-regulation. I also realize some people might abuse the process, but overall, we have a good group of folks in the area and maybe the idea could catch on. Maybe the students could have a project where they make a bunch reusable cloth sacks out of old, discarded material on its way to the landfill, and sell them for $1.00, or fill the borrow a bag stations with a starter bunch of the bags. We have plenty of people here in town that would be more than willing to lend a hand and/or materials to the kids. I also like the whole idea because it's forward-thinking on a number of fronts.Good job Crest, keep pushing it and I think it will catch on!

Comments: This sadly reminds me of the ttroure discussions, in a way. Not in terms of atrocity, but simply that everyone except Randy seems to be worried about effectiveness and whether they work, and even Leonard seems to have staked his position based on it not working. Yet the more obvious and salient question is, should the City be punishing people for sitting down when they have nowhere else to sit? And furthermore, should they at least be holding up their end of the bargain, whatever the excuse for not having appropriate services ready? Yeah, there's a recession. Guess who knew it before you? The people getting cited for sit-lie. Legally and morally, the arguments have been clearly stated and won't change with 5000 more months of community process: sit-lie is an inappropriate attempt to shun and move along those that we're already doing an injustice to by allowing them to remain homeless when they desire shelter. This is a surprising and disappointing position Commissioner Fritz has taken, not at all in keeping with my pre-election view of her.

Comments: So much of what Crest students and surprpteos of a bag fee (or ban) are trying to do is related to educating the masses about how harmful plastic and single use plastic bags are to us and our environment. One of the best ways is to view the film, Bag-it . There will be a few more free showings of the film in the next few months and I encourage anyone who has not seen the film to see it! Bag-it is an informative and entertaining movie that will make an ever lasting impression on you. If you have seen it, please encourage others to see it. IF you are in support of helping reduce plastic bag use please sign a petition in various stores or stop by The Crest (12th and G) to sign a petition.
