Jim George | This tachnology is such a dramatic change that it will transport single-op (and even multi-op) into a totally different range. It turns radiosporting into computer-robitics at some time in the near future. This falls into the machine to machine category, certainly not CW or SSB contesting.
Arthur Trampler, K0RO (ex KC2G) | Skimmer, while a technological marvel, has no place in the world of CW contesting. Please amend your contest rules to eliminate this option/disqualify those who use it!
Bob Peterson, W7UT |
Ralph Bates - K1ZZI |
Lee Hiers, AA4GA | CW contests should be open only for human decoding of morse code. Otherwise, we have effectively turned CW contesting into RTTY contesting. RTTY is a mode designed for electro/mechanical decoding, CW is not.
Tom Rauch W8JI | Please ban the skimmer. Keep radio about operating skill.

Jim Parnell, W5JAW | As stated above, other sports carefully control the application of new technologies to ensure that the basic nature of the game is not altered. Good operators have devoted years to developing the skills that differentiate them from the crowd. Skimmer would allow those much less skilled to really mess things up. Let's keep the incentives for learning the ropes, and leave aids like Skimmer to other modes.
Jerry Chouinard, K5YAA |
Lew Gordon, K4VX | I wrote tongue in cheek about this in NCJ in the 1980s. I never dreamed it might happen!
Chris Tran GM3WOJ GM7V ZL1V | Alex VE3NEA has contributed positively to amateur radio with e.g. MorseRunner and DXAtlas, but sadly his latest innovation will have an entirely negative effect on CW contesting...
Kazu, JK3GAD | Skimmer really really damage our contesting world. Let's keep CW contesting as it is now.
Keith Kerr GM4YXI |
Stu MM0BSM | CW should be done by the persons skill not the persons machine
Mark Sherbert, KM7DX | Although I am a 'little pistol' and am not a huge competitor, I believe in skill and not automation - I still log by hand. This to me is a joy and I accept the challenge of working others on a more or less equal basis. Skimmer is not skill and will not enhance good operator skills.
Dale Martin, KG5U | I agree with the petition's desire to maintain the CW Contesting status quo.
John MacLean MM0CCC | I'm not anti-technology but this program ruins CW contesting as I see it.
K0RU - Robert Underwood | I agree with this petition. I believe it would distroy the challenge and competitive nature of the contest sporting events. This and any technology simular which removes the humans intelectual ability to copy the Morse Code SHOULD NOT be allowed

Anonymous | While not a contestor, I agree that there should be a limit to the technology based on resources available. NASCAR uses restrictor plates. Perhaps a Skimmer catagory of contesting may come to play in the future. For CW contesting, CW Skimmer if not appropriate for the bandwidth available.
Jan Erik Holm SM2EKM |
OY1CT Carsten Thomsen |
John Elsdon G4RLS | I believe this technology is a step too far and would remove the true spirit of contesting
Jorma Saloranta OH2KI, ZB2X | CW Skimmers: NO for SOAB - emotionally NO for any CW contest.
Jim Funk, N9JF |
Clive Penna GM3POI |
| 84 | M Snow GW3PRL | I think the idea of automated contest QSOs defeats the object of the exercise.
Also I think the Power used needs to be policed (somehow), SSB contesting has become a beargarden! QRP sprint seems to be the way to go.
Martin, GW3PRL. |
| 85 | Graeme Jackson | CW contesting should use the skills of the operators only. CW skimmer should only be allowed in specific contests with regard to enhanced technology. It would probably be usfull for DXpedition stations.
Lets keep CW contesting skillfull, universal and on a level playing field for all, rich or poor, local or DX. |
Dave Lawley, G4BUO | I oppose CW Skimmer because it will downgrade CW contesting to a point-and-shoot computer game. The art of CW contesting will be killed if this technology gains wide acceptance.
John Hague, G4GOY |
Andy Hewitt G3SVD | I agree with the sentiments of this petition. Even though I am not a good cw operator I participate in cw contests using my ears and the grey matter between them and that is the way it should be. Those who want machines to do the work should go to RTTY.

June E. Page |
Fabian Kurz, DJ1YFK |
Martin Kratoska, OK1RR |
Nick Henwood G3RWF | As someone who enjoys struggling to be a CW contester please ensure that CW remain skills-based rather than technology-driven

SM2CEW, Peter | As much as technology is advancing, we must also preserve the distinction between human and machine achievements. A CW contest is about the operator developing certain skills and tactics to maximize his score. I do not want to see Skimmer technology used in CW contesting at all. There is just no possible way of comparing Skimmer assisted achievements with a CW operator doing all the work by himself. So, banning CW Skimmer in our CW contests is the right way to go.
