The Mooresville Skate Park is a great place for skaters. But, when it's full of fast and reckless teenagers, it is too intimidating for younger, smaller skaters. Often, the younger kids change their minds before they even get out of the car when they see the big kids all over the place. We feel it is important to offer a time when the park is open only to children age 12 and under to use without worry of being hurt or possibly bullied by the teenagers; a time when they can comfortably go at their own pace and develop their skills. For example, from 9 AM to Noon on Saturday, or even every other Saturday, no skaters over 12 allowed. Of course, parents/guardians would be required to stay with their skaters the whole time and will be responsible for their child(ren) and full safety gear would be required. The 'use at own risk' policy would still apply. Results from a very informal, nonscientific survey proved that this is a very popular idea and would be greatly appreciated. There are so many skaters under the age of twelve who want a place to skate just like the teenagers; without the intimidation of the teens. With other local towns, such as Statesville, banning skating while offering no alternative, the Mooresville Skate Park will potentially get even more crowded and be therefore even more of a concern for the younger skaters and their parents/guardians. Serious and open minded attention to this petition will be greatly appreciated.
