Name: Gloria Pina on Nov 3, 2011Comments: Not everyone needs childcare. CPS Students receive the same amount of instructional minutes as other states. Instead offer resources and support to impoverished communities by providing badly needed resources for children and families who are homeless, adults who need skills to be able to work, women who are in abusive relationships, people with drug and alcohol addiction, children neglected and abused, and offer support to schools and churches in these areas so that children and their families can focus on education.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Nov 3, 2011Comments: I think this is really excessive. I am all for a longer day but 7.5 will really make it difficult for children to do much else besides school. Alot of Chicago Park district activities (a source for exercise for our kids) start before our kids would even be out for the day. Also we would loose some of our enriching afterschool activities. Both of my kids have reading clubs to help with them with their reading and comprehension.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Nov 3, 2011Comments: My son is in kindergarten at Hamilton this year where they extended the school day from 5 and 3/4 to 6.5. He is getting all the required academic curriculum in his day plus art, music, PE, library, multicultural studies and recess. It is a full, productive day at 6.5 with plenty of time to receive specials and down time. I don't see how adding another hour will be productive or beneficial and may only make children tired and disinterested in homework and after-school activities.Flag
