Dear Chancellor Cheng and the SIUC Administration:
Graduate students are struggling to complete advanced degrees because of the persistent increase in fees. The gains made in stipend increases, negotiated at the beginning of our contract that lapsed last summer, have effectively been erased by the hike in student fees. This has imposed an undue financial burden on many students. We understand flat state budgets have put tight fiscal constraints on the university. However, we believe it is time for the Administration to recognize the value of our labor, our dedication and our expertise. We the undersigned ask that you recognize how vital graduate students are to this institution and implement a fee freeze for all grad assistants from the time a GA begins an assistantship until the student completes his or her degree. In short, freeze our fees!
