Have you ever wondered why your child's school doesn't offer a breakfast club? Its known that these programs are offered in areas of those who are low income. But not all our families in these areas are considered "low income", Some parents have to work early hours and a program such as this would provide a healthy meal to kick-start your child's day without the worry of what they ate if anything at all, or just having something small and sending them on there way. Breakfast clubs are not just for the lower income families, but for parents with early work schedules who want to ensure there kid gets a healthy meal at the start of their day. Its also in a safe, familiar environment of there school with peers and is also a place to make new friends. I believe it encourages good social skills and and gives children something to look forward to each morning before having to go to class. I read an article in the US that blew me away, it was believed by the Washington editor of the conservative National Review that parents that put their children in breakfast programs were “criminally negligent", that there was no excuse why a parent could not russle up a bowl of cereal and a banana before school. The way I see it is that each family is different, and there reasons for putting there children in a breakfast program varies, but I would have never think it was because of criminal negligence! If there is such a program that is beneficial to you and your child, then why should it be spoken of so poorly. Clearly we live in a different country, and I am sure opinions are different here. So as you can tell, my goal with this petition is to reach out to the parents of Sir Adam beck and see who feels our school could truly benefit from a Breakfast program. If given enough signatures, I plan to take this directly to the principle and the Toronto District School Board with hopes of implement this idea and be on board with it, to support, encourage and be a complete part of it.
