The Sims Online "the" massively multiplayer online variation on Maxis's highly popular computer game The Sims, was published by Electronic Arts and released on December 17, 2002.
In March 2007, EA announced that the product would be re-branded as EA-Land and major enhancements would be made. About a year later, EA announced that the game would shut down all activity on August 1, 2008.
The Sims franchise is one of the biggest selling PC/Mac games of all time and is still going strong with the newly released Expansion Pack, Seasons.
Whilst EA have 'nudged' The Sims franchise a little to include online activities which include "The Sims Social" on Facebook and included a small amount of interaction with other players when they released The Sims Showtime, as yet, they have not re-released The Sims Online in the true form of a MMORPG.
The Sims Online (TSO) could be a social based game where people from across the globe could interact and chat as a "sim" with other real people also playing as their chosen sim.
I strongly believe with standard of game graphics that have developed over the last ten years, bringing TSO back would attract many new and existing new players to the game and develop to become a huge 3D online social platform success.
The Sims 3 in its current format, has a huge following of third party content creators and with this in mind, the option to include micro payments in return for EA approved content, could be another attraction for players and content creators alike.
Some other possible game ideas:
Building "in world" and managing your own house, night club, restaurant, bar, clothing store, furniture store, pet shop, pizza delivery, particular skill house, wedding christening venues etc.
Marry a "Sim" (another player) who you met whilst playing The Sims Online and invite your friends to the wedding!
Have babies and aid in their development just as the existing games allows (Babies and off spring would have to be NPCs until they reach Young Adult when they can be made available for other players to claim as their playing sim)
Buy/Build on virtual land you rent from EA Games just as other existing virtual worlds do.
Move in and live, party, listen to music, DJ at parties, play in game "games" like chess etc with real friends.... the possibilities are endless!
Most big name games now include the ability to play with other people online and as "The Sims" was one of the very first games to do this, bringing it back online as its current, graphically updated level is long overdue!
Imagine these screen shots of The Sims 3 PC non online game as a fully immersive, online game where other sims are "real people" and not just NPCs! (Non Playing Characters)
