This petition is designed to show support FOR a City of Durango, Colorado, bag ban. Customers can bring reusable bags and use them at checkout for no additional cost. The ordinance acknowledges the local and global repercussions of disposable bag waste. Despite recycling efforts, many disposable bags enter landfills and litter the environment, thus endangering human and animal health and causing environmental degradation. Therefore, this ordinance seeks to protect the natural environments and the health of Durango citizens and visitors, reduce waste, reduce environmental damages associated with bag litter, and reduce the cost of clean up efforts.
