Get The Facts on MCC: Sibley Building Proposal Feb 5. 2013 | Comments (0)
What’s in the proposal to create a modern, expanded campus for Monroe Community College at The Sibley Building?
It starts with a minimum savings for taxpayers of $18 million, compared to the estimated cost of moving MCC to the Kodak site a mile outside of downtown. The cost to create the MCC-Sibley campus is based on a detail, expert analysis conducted by DiMarco Constructors.
For $58 million, The Sibley Building can meet or exceed all the criteria that MCC leaders want for their permanent campus, including:
- More built-out square footage (275,539 square feet);
- A dedicated MCC entrance and lobby steps from a new transit center;
- All new heating and cooling systems, and separate utilities;
- Much more parking, specifically 1,800 covered spaces, as opposed to 439 outdoor spaces at Kodak. There will be 100 dedicated underground parking spaces at The Sibley Building for MCC staff.
- Student and staff safety in the form of complete security camera system and a 50-officer police substation.
The proposal allows the college to act immediately to own all the space at The Sibley Building it needs for its current campus and for its anticipated, future needs.
Judge for yourself whether The Sibley Building represents the best opportunity for a high quality downtown campus for MCC and for $18 million in savings for Monroe County taxpayers. Read the proposal at: http://www.thesibleybuilding.com/proposal.pdf.
