Peter Jolly's travelling circus came to Chasetown last Wednesday and remained until Sunday. But animal rights protesters picketed the shows calling the forced performance of animals cruel and outdated. Supporters of the RSPCA and the Captive Animals Protection Society (CAPS) gathered nightly to hand out leaflets in a bid to stop visitors attending the shows. Performing animals used by the circus include llamas, camels, horses, ponies, geese, zebras, dogs, cats and an ankole bull.
