Name: Karen Munro on Jul 8, 2005State: WACountry: USComments: I am 60 years old and was asked the other day to put out my cigarette as was sitting outside at the Alderwood Mall waiting for my husband come out of one of the stores. I felt angry and wanted to lash out at this young security officer, I did tell him it was against my civil rights, I saw no sign saying not to smoke, which I think this is all nonsence that there are more important is sues to take care of than putting our tax money on trying to take our rights away from us. My husband has been in the USN for almost 23 years and was in Iraq for 11 months fighting for our freedom and you are here trying to take them away. You preach we are a free Country and in my life I see slowly our rights being taken away.Flag

Name: Pamela Coupe on Aug 25, 2005State: CTCountry: USComments: Also! Since when was I not able to purchase cigarettes via the internet Have you taken every "right" away from me There are hundreds of websites that anyone can purchase all types of items - from clothing; toys; food; to anything else and tax is not required - why cigarettes I am on a fixed income; and have finally found a "break" with purchasing my cigarettes on the internet. Now, I am NOT allowed to! In addition, I have received a very nasty letter from the IRS telling me that I owe them back taxes for purching cigarettes on the internet; in addtion to a fine! WHEN IS THIS GOING TO STOP There is absolutely nothing in American that we can call our own! No one "owns" their home; cars; or property, even if is IS paid off. The government would never hesitate to take it away from us if we could not pay their high taxes.Flag

Name: John-Paul Hutchings on Oct 30, 2005State: RICountry: USComments: I am so tired of being taxed to death on cigarettes, especially when these taxes were approved by us to specifically pay for the damages directly attributable by cigarettes, yet they never are used for this. I have much to say about this and many other smoking issues, but I have not the time or space here to list them. Smokers UniteFlag

Name: Anonymous on May 9, 2007State: ILCountry: USComments: In Illinois, January 1, 2008, all public places will become non-smoking establishments. In addition, no smoking is permitted within 15 feet of the entrance the door. Therefore, I suggest that since this will be in effect as of January 1, it should be mandatory that sheltered areas be available for smokers to smoke outside.Flag
