Last weekend in the Premiership, Tim Cahill of Everton celebrated a goal, and the nature of his celebration caused him to be sent from the field. His crime was pulling his shirt over his head. The new FIFA rule of a mandatory yellow card does nothing for the game, and as shown this past weekend can actually hurt the game. If a Player scores a goal, he should be able to celebrate how he likes within reason - the removal of shirts as a display of emotion never hurt the game before, and I think it is wrong of FIFA to implement this rule - decisions regarding the natures of celebration offences should be at the discretion of the referee. |
