Name: William P. Snow on Oct 29, 2007City: GaylordUS State: MIComments: As a long time Mnt bike rider as well as an active participant in the care and maintenence of the Shingle Mill trail system, I find the idea of closing a dedicated multi-use trail, that is used and maintained by it's primary user group an injustice and abuse of our public lands by not only the individuals and groups opposed but the govermental agencies as well.Flag

Name: Tim Greening on Oct 29, 2007City: N. MuskegonUS State: MIComments: Another example of uninformed impact of mountain bikes on trails. Bikes, according to numerous studies, have the same impact as hiking boots. Maybe Shingle Mill should be closed to hiking also.Flag

Name: James Huang on Oct 29, 2007City: YpsilantiUS State: MIComments: In this day and age of obese children (and adults!) and $3/gallon gasoline, it continues to amaze me why anyone would actively seek to *ban* a form of physical activity such as cycling. I will freely admit that there are bad apples in the mountain biking community, but on the whole, we are a law-abiding and courteous group who only wish to have safe (and legal) settings in which to practice our favorite activity. Moreover, mountain bikers have, historically, been among the most active users in building and maintaining trail networks, and I'm sure that trend would continue at Pigeon River. Please reconsider the final draft of the management plan that bans mountain biking. Thank you very much.Flag
