The current Final Draft of the Pigeon River Area Management Plan that would prohibit access to bicycles on the Shingle Mill Pathway is unacceptable. Mountain bikers have historically been responsible, low impact users and dedicated stewards of this trail. As with all multi-use trails in Michigan, continuing efforts to maintain, make sustainable and address any user conflicts should and will be an integral part of the Shingle Mill Pathway\'s future success as a multi-use trail. Eliminating cyclist access to this trail is not a proactive solution to the long-term management of Pigeon River Country and will actually serve to increase adverse impact on the area\'s natural resources. Subsequently, the Pigeon River Area Management Plan must be revised to allow the continued access of mountain bikes on the Shingle Mill Pathway. We will be presenting this petition to at the Natural Resources Commission meeting in East Lansing, MI on November 8th.
